Getting Close.
A little over a year ago, we started working on our fourth album, Hypnic Jerk. We just got the master tracks back from Saff Mastering in Chicago and couldn't be more proud of our work. It's hard to believe that this project started as a drunken idea, "lemme record 30 songs in 30 days". Now our thoughts are, "Next step: Vinyl." Fucking awesome.

New Drummer
As we count the days until Hypnic Jerk's release we've been experiencing some ongoing happenings and changes with House of Bread. First of all, Carl Saff is working on mastering the album before it gets sent off to the printing press.
We're sorry to see Eric Frank leave, however, we know he's going to be working on and concentrating on some incredibly exciting projects. Be sure to check out the other band he has been playing with for a number of years, Wooden Satellites. Good luck with everything Eric!
Taking Eric's place will be a long time collaborater and bandmate-many-times-over, Phil Arbogast. Phil lent his drumming skills to 2 of the tracks that will be featured on Hypnic Jerk. Bob and I have also played with him in All Nite Skate, Castles, and Suck At Sports. During the coming weeks, we're planning on dusting off and reworking some very old House of Bread material that either hasn't been played in quite some time or never at all. Be sure to check out Phil's solo project, DromemorD. Welcome aboard Phil!

2011 Year in Review
Omar Afzaal
Favorite Albums of 2011
As I'm typing this list, I'm realizing how amazing the Wild Flag and Unknown Mortal Orchestra albums are. There are also plenty others that I've probably listened to more that didn't make the list. However, the following is what I consider the cream of the crop. I'm predicting that these albums will age wonderfully.
Godspeed You Black Emperor - 3/29 Detroit
Mogwai & Errors - 4/29 Chicago
Both of these shows made me feel like I was 16. Simply amazing.
Pitchfork Music Festival 2011 (mainly Deerhunter, Kurt Vile, Neko Case, Destroyer, Wild Nothing, Twin Shadow, Kylesa, Superchunk, and Battles)
I can't believe I survived this one.
Best "Holy Crap, I know the dude who did that" Moment
This album was written, recorded and performed by our good friend Phil Arbogast who will lent his drumming talents to two tracks that will be on Hypnic Jerk. Anyway, this album continues to grow on me and impress me.
Favorite non-2011 Discoveries That Occured In 2011
Kate Bush - (thanks Jeremy)
Neil Young - Trans (thanks Bob)
Jever Pilsener
Murchan Yakisoba Ramen
Michelle Orchard was a non-2011 discovery, however, I married her this year...so that was awesome.

Analog Sound
Well we just finished re-mixing the album to tape this weekend. It all took place at Off The Cuff Sound. Jason Davis did a wonderful job sculpting our recordings into something that we feel is truly special. Next stop: The tapes will be sent to Carl Saff to be mastered...

Patience
As we're taking the necessary steps to get our 4th album pressed to vinyl, we're having a hard time practicing patience. Here's an example of how it's done. Courtesy of Bob.
